Ding Dong! The Phantom Doorbell

This is an post from the olden days – read more about them here.

Yesterday I was sitting at my computer when the doorbell went off. I went to check the door, but there was no-one there, and could hear no-one (our steps make a bit of noise when you walk up them)

Then this morning, the doorbell went off twice, and then I realised.

The doorbell is one of those wireless ones. Someone else in our area must have just bought a new doorbell just like ours, and when someone pushed their doorbell button, ours goes off as well.

The solution was simple. There are coding switches on the back, to select a different channel for the doorbell to work on. I changed the code on the transmitter and receiver, and no more false alarms.
