Another railfan trip – Swan Hill this time

This is an post from the olden days – read more about them here.

Yes, yet another trip, this time to Swan Hill, out and back in a day.

A mate of mine (Matt Julian) hired out an entire BS carriages and sold tickets for the trip, as these carriages will be taken out of service soon. We ended up having 32 of us on board the carriage.

The BS carriages are of the older-style aisle and compartment type.

Yes, the trip to Swan Hill is a big load of nothingness part Bendigo.

More emptiness

We ended up migrating between our carriage at one end, the snack bar in the middle, and the first class carriage at the other end. The other passengers were quite confused why all these people with cameras around their neck were walking up and down the train the entire trip.

In all, another fun day out, all 690 km’s of it.

In the olden days the train out to Red Hill near Mildura used to have last carriage as a police lockup as it was the furthest criminals could get away from Melbourne without crossing the border. They would be caught when they went to the pub at Red Hill and chucked back on the train.

I also went on the “Train of Knowledge” in 1989 going to Swan Hill via Bendigo. There was a train strike on the way back so we had to get the bus home from Sunshine.
