Selling off parkland on Buckley Street, Footscray

Parkland has become a hot button topic in the inner Melbourne suburb of Footscray, with 2016 seeing members of the local community lobbying state and local government to allow surplus railway land to be turned over to the public as open space, and not sold for development. But on Buckley Street the government is doing something even more shameful – selling off former parkland as a development site.

Back in April 2016 the Western Bulldogs pulled out a rather clever banner for their game against North Melbourne – the rail theme is what caught my eye.

Change at Footscray for the City Loop?

With no platforms for the Regional Rail Link tracks at North Melbourne, V/Line trains no longer stop at the station, forcing passengers for the City Loop to change trains at Footscray instead. So how much harder is this transfer for commuters?

Passengers at the newly expanded Footscray station has a problem – useless next train displays on the main concourses. With six platforms now in use, only the next four departures are listed.

Six platforms at Footscray station, yet passengers are only told the next four trains!
